Blue mage in Salvage

Yes, this post is about Salvage, a long forgotten event in this game that is now lol in many ppl's mind.


Ever since I got Salvage access about one year ago, I've been trying get into Salvage parties. Whenever I see /shout in WG, I often sent /tell and ask if I can join. Then when I was asked what jobs I have, I replied BLU and COR, and I often got ignored after I told them my jobs. It is until much later I finally realized only MNK THF BRD WHM RDM or maybe random 2h DD are allowed to do Salvage, every other job is meh. And it is until much later I finally able to get into some groups, on COR, as "a substitute of BRD". Since everyone and their mother told me Blue mage is a NO NO for Salvage.

I've been educated that way, that Blue mage is a NO NO for Salvage ever since I asked ppl in Escaflowne if I can join their Salvage static. And ppl never ask me to come BLU for Salvage. It's always, always COR. Although sometimes I have my doubt, that if BLU is really THAT bad for Salvage. Most ppl complain that BLU needs too many cells to fully unlock it's power, however the only cell that BLU really need and other 2h frontline jobs don't need is just MP cell really. Everything else, magic, STR, weapons and SJ are needed for other 2h melee job as well. I've been thinking about draging ppl and do my own Salvage run and use BLU to see if it works, until yesterday the leader of my Salvage static asked me to come BLU instead of usual COR, I finally get a chance to try BLU in Salvage.

So what's my opinion for BLU doing Salvage? I'd say BLU is hugely underrated for Salvage. Maybe it's not that good before lv 80 update, but now it's certainly underrated badly. No, it probably won't replace other melee jobs like MNK or THF, but its far from a NO NO job, and it has it's own unique strength(and weakness) when comparing with other 2h melee DDs.

I'd say compare with lv 75 era, 3 updates made Salvage friendlier for BLU than ever. First is new job trait Double attack and Dual wield, and quite possibly new magian weapons that's good for melee. Before BLU gets magic, SJ and MP cell, BLU is able to deal at least acceptable melee DoT dmg because of both job traits. Secondly, RDM now has Refresh II, and BLU now has new low MP cost spell Delta Thrust. MP is less an issue, even without MP cell, the small MP pool is still enough to spam spells constantly.

To summarize the strength of BLU I've found in Salvage:
1. Can deal good enough dmg without JA cell.
2. Able to deal both blunt/piercing dmg, for extra dmg when fighting against mobs weak against those.
3. Has access to self defensive spell such as Occultation before SJ unlocked.
4. Other usual BLU strength, such as stun lock, flash, several buff/debuff spells, won't get raped by attack down or amnesia etc.

Of course there's something I'm not all that happy about BLU in Salvage:
1. Dmg output is still a bit disappointed compare with other ppl I usually do Salvage with.... although I'm kinda compare my mediocre geared BLU with Spharai MNK or Fudo SAM. I guess I got spoiled by Abyssea's crazy dmg output too.
2. TP feed on Chariot...Although this can kinda be avoided by not spamming multi-hit like no tomorrow, and focus on more debuff spells or stun.

Hmmm sounds like the weakness aren't that much of a big deal no?

Note that since our Salvage run went much smoother when I come BLU instead of COR(kills much faster), the leader told me to come BLU from now on. Odin/Ultima fight and Salvage is probably the only event I still use COR for, now there's one less event I can use this job XD. Since Untima drops now kinda lol, the only event I found COR still useful is probably Odin, because Dynabus do Odin with RNG pt and RNGs in the pt often ask for Snapshot roll. I spent at least 20 min yesterday QQing to Tav about how useless my main job is(pretty much every friend of mine consider I'm a COR main, so be it). Tav also QQ for a bit about he never get to use DRK because he has WHM, hell DRK is not even as bad as COR. Then I edited my WL on MILA website and put some gears that benefits my BLU a bit closer to the top, since I have a feeling that I'll have to rely on my BLU to get stuff done in this game for very long time until I lv another more useful job, so I can't let it gimp. My WL for Abyssea events is usually full of COR gears, now I kinda put gears that benefits both jobs (such as Atheling Mantle and Epona's ring) closer to the top.


How ironic, someone in Cynosure just started some drama yesterday and got kicked because he insisted all jobs has it's place when I said some jobs are easily replaceable with better options for better result. Pretty much most of the events I do in this game works better if I use BLU instead of COR, so I may as well just stay on BLU fulltime from now on. So far I'm happy with full timing BLU because I can get almost every thing I want to do in this game with only this job, on the same time not getting stuck on it and have some freedom to play other job when I feel like it. For someone who only has 2 jobs 75+ (probably not a lot of ppl only has 2 jobs 75+ these days, even worse, one of my job is rarely used), this is one job that can fit into most pt setup, most events and situations and still get the job done. Not the best option sometimes(for example, BLU/WHM main healing can never heal as good as WHM or even SCH), but it works, and works well.

So....what's after abyssea?

Me and Tavera had a discussion about what SE is going to bring us in future updates of FFXI.

I admit I never try really all that hard on getting all atma/abyssite, or grind certain gear/merit certain way just for abyssea. Since I believe in the future SE is going to release even more area/endgame content that's outside of abyssea. The world of unlimited MP, RR atma and crit-hit rule them all is gonna over some days. However, Tav has different opinion, he said after all the player enjoyed big number WS, unlimited MP, invincible brew power, easy gears and good EXP who would go back to old days when WS dmg gimp again and mage runs out of MP often. He believes that SE is going to keep the way it is even in the future.

Last Monday I finally got Rani clear thanks to those who brewed. I'd have to say the process of beating Rani is pretty lame, first we all try to proc !!!, which is very easy with the abyssite you got after killing Shinryu. After we proc !!! Ager popped his brew, lost his brew because of para, go got another one and start soloing Rani to 50%, then 2 other member popped another brew and killed it, I pretty much just stand there and leech for clear. Brew so cheap now that it doesn't even has it's value, and NMs so easy with brew that making a pt with certain setup doesn't have any value besides !!! proc. Now Shinryu and 20k magical WS is new to us, so we're all excited about big WS numbers. How about 3 months later? 1 year later? 3 year later? When we're all sick of brew on every hard NM and solo everything with 20k WS/nuke every 3 sec? Big WS number with atma/brew is epic first time, but eventually we're gonna get sick of it, someday. Therefore I still believe making anymore abyssea zones in the future isn't a good idea.

I mentioned Ager failed to kill Rani with brew on BLU, that's because he used wrong spells. I'm not a math person and not really familiar with WS/physical blue magic formula. Apparently Physical blue magic has very lame dmg(like 2.8~4k) when you brewed and magical does way better dmg(like 12~28k). This also applied to WSs. Magical WS can deal way higher dmg when brewed, crit-hit dmg WS is a bit lower, and none magical/crit-hit WS dmg is very lame. So if you're a BLU and used brew, cast magical spells and use magical WS.

And since I saw a brewed 33k Wildfire WS screenshot somewhere on Shinryu so I assume Wildfire COR or RNG probably does best dmg besides Chain Spell RDM. Wildfire is already the strongest magical WS, and brew just makes it godly.

Shinryu spam and broken Abyssea

The LS I do Abyssea event with, MILA, recently cleared Raja. Therefore most members now has Shinryu access. I missed their Rani clear on Sunday, and also missed Raja clear on Monday due to dead internet, therefore no Shinryu for me for a while I guess. However, seeing how they farm Shinryu makes me wonder if Abyssea is really broken.

Basically, after they got Shinryu access, they invited a WAR(I think? that's what I've heard so far...anyways most jobs can solo Shinryu so it doesn't matter) and use the brew for Shinryu fight, got the clear, then farm 200k curor, enter Shinryu BC, use brew, got clear and drops, repeat. They're able to farm 200k curor in about 2hr with just 3 ppl, one puller and 2 ppl AoE killing everything. So basically every 2hr of farming you can enter the BC solo and guarantee win. No special pt setup/stragety needed(except blue proc maybe?), I wonder what's the point to make such BC? When everything about winning this BC is spending 2hr farming 200k cruor.

Some of the tough fights in this game used to be an achievement after getting clear, because they require a good pt setup, organization and collaboration. From smaller fights such as Mission BCs such as CoP/mini-expansion, or Nyzul/Salvage, to bigger fights that requires a LS to work together, such as Einherjar T3/Odin. When I won those fights, it's that sense of achievement that makes this game fun. Now I wonder if beating Shinryu can call an archievement, when all you need is to spend 2hr help a friend who already cleared farm 200k curor, then ask him to solo the BC.

I'm pretty sure soon we'll see Twilight gear everywhere, unless SE change this in next update. Thanks to Primeval Brew, Twilight gear may actually be one of the easiest to obtain god-like gear so far. Stuff like Odin drops, Salvage boss drops, Kirin drops, Dynamis lord drops or even sea/limbus gears used to be rare because they take a effort to clear/obtain, not every LS can clear those fights. (P.S getting sea access used to be a pain, therefore sea/limbus gear can be a pain to obtain kinda), and that's why those old event gears used to be rare. Now everyone all farming 200k curor and spamming Shinryu, about time to see everyone running in Twilight ;) Even getting Shinryu access won't be that hard anymore, since more and more ppl will get 200k brew access and make Raja/Rani total joke.


5 gil betting SE is going to nerf this, either by making brew unusable in Shinryu BC, giving Shinryu some ability to dispel the brew effect, or making brew cost 1M instead of 200k.


Oh and btw, I joined one of the MILA curor farm pt, as a leecher to lv my subjob. THF 43--->45 SCH 40--->43 in 30 min. I bragged in Cynosure LS chat how fast I got EXP in abby, and Grommet replied "Abyssea is broken"

Abyssea is indeed broken.
With a pointless BC that all you do is farm an item and win. 200k cruor per run for a gear.
With a pointless way to lv low lv jobs when you don't get to PLAY the job. No, I love fast EXP, but I also want to play the job while lving it. And since it's very hard to make low lv pt sometimes I'm pretty much forced to leech my low lv jobs.

Broken, indeed.

Gulool Ja Ja title cleared!

After bombarding everyone I know with /tell and asked for help,
me and Tavera finally made a pt of 18 ppl, for Gulool Ja Ja title, the last beastmen title I need for Project DP. This is my first time trying to organize a large pt for an none-abby EXP event by myself, so it's a nice learning experience.

Note that I /shouted in Jeuno for a little bit, and only get the response "People still killing this NM?". Also when I asked ppl to help, after I explained that this title is for mythic, most of the reply I've got is "lol". I guess under the power of Abyssea and Empyrean, Mythic no longer has value in many ppl's mind :/

Anyways, there are ppl willing to help still. So there we go!


Reaching the NM area is actually easier than I expected. Maybe because our lv is higher now. Although death, aggroing still happened.

Bebetaro knows this place extremly well, so I'm glad that we have someone that knows the way. XD


My setup was one tank pt, 4 kiters for adds and a DD pt including SMN and SAM who only run in for WS. In the end the DNC in kiter pt ended up able to kite 4 adds at once, I was one of the kiter, and ended up doing dmg instead since DNC can easily hold all adds. I guess lv90 power just pwn too much. I remember his AoE was a pain when I fought it at 75, and takes very long time to kill. At 90 his AoE isn't that bad, but still takes pretty long time to kill :x





When NM almost died it became slightly more annoying, a couple of death occured when it used Mijin Gakure. But overall it's much easier than it used to be(of course - -) I believe a pt of 6~8 ppl can clear if done right.



Anyways, a few more steps away until first quest done! Thanks to everyone that helped!
Now I need to sleep with Tavera to keep my promise DX

As you can see from SS, my Blue mage is pretty lol in terms of gear.
I talked to Tavera yesterday, and we had a discussion about why my gear always gimp compare with others XD
Tavera told me I wasted too much time grinding Empyrean and Mythic, when everyone else worked on more
useful gears such as AF3+1/+2. I guess he is right, time to work on my BLU a bit more, I've been neglecting it for a very long time already.

Gulool Ja Ja *Ready*

So I just farmed all 3 keys for the door that leads to Gulool Ja Ja, time to organize a fight and get the title for Project Death Peanalty.

I am planning to organize an alliance for this fight this Friday night, see if I can find 18 ppl, and I will be /shouting in Jeuno/WG for a while. If you're on Ragnarok server and needs the title please let me know, thank you.

1 year ago I did this with Escaflowne, quite a pain in the ass he was, if I run into Serenlycheerful someday maybe I should ask him for some advice about this fight ._.

Ninja revived

Saw this on FFXIAH.





I used to want to lv NIN, but gave up because it's too expensive and not all that useful for events. Now it's one of the most powerful job you can have in this game ._. one of the top DD with RR atma, beast solo job and very good job in abby event for all sorts of !!! proc and tanking.

Once Naba told me only JP play NINs, now I see NIN everywhere, JP or none-JP alike. Just like how I see way more BLU now than it used to be in pre-abyssea era.

DNC and /DNC

I mentioned I was working on lving DNC to 90 as my third job before, then SE slap this job in the face by giving it long ass Curing Waltz V recast time. Curing is what I enjoy playing this job the most(DNC can totally outcure WHM at low lv btw, due to generating TP faster than generating MP at low lv), so I kinda gave up lving this job atm, especially grinding all the 99999 gear needed for this job gives me headache ._.


So I tried to play with COR/DNC for a bit, I'd say I like it. Haste Samba is very useful, and new Curing Waltz III is very useful for curing. Compare with /WHM the curing/remove status aliment ability is a bit weaker because all Waltz are in same category and Healing waltz can't remove everything, but it's good enough if the pt has enough healers I'd say. I'm actually interested in trying this sub for Salvage next time, it looks like a pretty good sub for Salvage(I tried /RNG and /RDM for salvage, but don't like it as much as /WHM). /DNC has access to most of the DNC main ability, so I may as well just play COR/DNC and pretend to be a fake DNC XD.

Note that /DNC gets DW job trait, with my newly augmented Crit dmg+6% dagger I actually want to try some new DD style, such as DW and focus on melee DPS for dmg and use Evisceration instead of Slug Shot with RR atma in abby, I admit seeing some insane big number Evisceration from DNC and THF makes me want to try that also, since my Slug shot dmg is getting pretty lame comparing with other crit-hit WS.

My friend Kingilya(finally found a RNG friend that can teach me how to play ranged attack jobs properly!) recently pointed out that I may be using wrong atma/gear for my WS set, since gun WS is different from Bow WS because it's easier to cap fSTR on gun. When doing WS, gun benefits less from adding more STR, so I should use AGI atma instead. Now that I got my 3rd lunar abyssite access, I finally have room to add an AGI atma, next time gonna see if there's any significant Slug Shot dmg increase.

More Dominion Ops and Augments

Today I joined a pt spamming Dominion Ops and fought Buffalo, each page gives 4.2k EXP, and after 1.5~2hr EXP capped at 640 per kill. Pretty quick way to EXP. I get my COR 85--->90 in 3hr. After the pt I ended up having 14k Dominion notes, so I tried my luck with augment items. Here are some augments I got that's not too lame:






Dagger: Looks pretty good for Evisceration with RR atma no? Especially COR can't use magian dagger, looks good for Evisceration build. Probably good for THF and DNC with RR atma also, although I'm not sure if magian dagger is better.

Gun: Hmmm D49 gun with AGI+3, not as good as magian guns or even new Suppressor gun but consider it's free and no work needed I'd say it's good. Now I get a acceptable gun to use so I can be lazy and take a break on Anarchy+2 so I can focus on making Death Penalty and Armageddon XD.

Ah btw, each weapon NPCd for almost 7k, so it's worth trying even though the chance of getting lame augment is pretty high. Good luck.

Dominion Ops

After 2 hrs of Dominion Ops spam I finally got my BLU to 90. Dominion Ops is truely good stuff, with a pt you can easily get 30k/hr EXP and farm TE no problem. Although not as much as Abby EXP pt, but you don't have to sit there /shout for 1hr for full alliance, and sit there for another 3hr for EXP to be good. You can leave anytime and easily find ppl to team up with. And you get Dominion notes for AF3 base armor and augment items. For those who has no time to join Abby EXP pt and do 5 hrs of lving, try Dominion Ops!

Captain rank obtained

After months of work, finally.....






So I guess that's one small step closer towards finishing DP.

But the coolest part of getting to Captain is I can finally use runic portal for free, no need to wait for ages for boat when going to Einherjar. I guess I don't have to worry about my IS(which is getting lower and lower after merit pt dead) for a while.

RDM and new update

RDM used to be one of the best healer after getting Convert and Refresh because of the amount of MP they can use. @75, they're the best healer in Nyzul, any EXP pt 41+, pink bird merit pt and such. WHM is supposed to be THE healing class in FFXI, but only in a few situations they're more useful than RDM for as a healer/support role in pt.

So I guess that's why SE is slowly making what RDM is supposed to be, debuff/buff class instead of healing class, and let jobs like WHM to focus on healing. I know a lot of RDMs are QQing about not getting Cure V in this update, but I like the way SE changes RDM back to what it's for.

Tbh, I think RDM used to be a broken mage class in this game, lasts longer than WHM as a healer, have access to beast debuff spells, best solo class and decent tank. Guess that's why SE is nerfing RDM in everyway and only keeping the debuff/buff part.

2 of the most broken classes(SAM as DD, RDM as mage) didn't get much new stuff recently, guess that's how SE balance jobs ._.

Ok I admit I want Bounty Shot from RNG more than Triple Shot ._.
So I can finally /THF and feel like a real pirate.....

But RNG already got Double shot, so I guess they can't have 2 JAs that's similar....
SE should give RNG Triple shot since they're meant to be DD and ammo cheaper,
and gives COR Double shot......

Or maybe Triple shot proc rate is lower than Double shot and such.

Unless the atma in third add-on gives crazy dmg to skill chain, I doubt Allies' roll is going to be useful. Hmmm maybe useful for SAM zerging, then quickly switch to another DD roll when their SC is over??? Or maybe SE is going to add some mob that's immune to all dmg except SC dmg?

Still don't see much use of this roll unless third add-on change the way we play this game again.

Regain roll....Some say it's useful in abby to proc !!!, to help DDs gain TP especially while walking and such. However, unless Regain really gives a lot of TP/tic, I doubt it's going to be more efficient than coming another DD capable of using more different type of WS and weapons. VV atma should be enough for Regain purpose IMO. Now the current best DD atma favors melee DoT dmg instead of WS, so this probably won't beat other DD rolls for DDing. However, if SE gives some crazy WS atma like WS dmg x3 atma, this may be a very good DD roll. It all depends on what atma we can get in next add-on.

But now I know while my pt is walking, I'll have 2 rolls to give instead of 1. Movement speed+ and Regain! I'm pretty glad that I finally got a chance redo ASA last boss last week and got PR recast -5 pants, totally in love with my 49 sec PR recast timer atm, so I can give 2 rolls more quickly in such situations.....Hmmm maybe I should drop my QD acc merit to 0 and get PR recast to 45 sec.

I guess I'm probably the biggest victim of COR dying after the abyssea update DX
Yesterday I got bored and did some job search, there were like 89+ RDM(still the most played job) online, jobs like BST(used to be the least played class) BLU DNC all had 40~50+ ppl, even PUP has like 20+ ppl. COR? only 3. Only 3 CORs in the entire world DX I also noticed Kizunas secretly removed COR on their recruiting job list D;


Let's see if new Regain roll and Triple shot can save this job or not.

Magian, magian and more magian

So I finally realized finishing Armageddon anytime soon is not practical for me. Unless I can solo Carabosse by next update, I estimate I need at least another 2+ year to finish it, assuming another 50 items are needed to upgrade it to lv 90. Generally anything that needs organizing a pt, finding ppl etc always take longer than I expected. So instead of waiting I decided to get another gun to replace my Martial gun while waiting for a chance to get help to kill Carabosse.

I really don't want to do anymore Magian weapon, so at first I aim for some NM drops so I can get the item instantly. The first item that interested me is Exequy Gun which drops from T3 VNM in Abyssea Vunkerl, DMG 52(pretty high), and it has relic WS(cool!). Sadly pretty soon I realized getting this item is probably even more impractical than getting 50 gems.... getting pop item for this NM is just impossible. T2 VNM is NEVER_UP in Abyssea. No, I mean NEVER, not rarely, but NEVER. I have a T2 pop item forever, everytime when I farm seal/do quest/EXP I sometimes sit down and /heal, and the msg is always no monster in this area.

SE really need to change T2 VNM spawn time in Abyssea. Ok, I lied, once I found it was up when I /heal, but before I can ask ppl to come and help me kill it was no longer up again, in like 3 min - -.

So I guess I have no choice. Magian, accept the fate of Magian. Sad, SE should add more AH weapons for me to buy at least :/

Since the main reason why I'm going to make another Magian gun is because I want a weapon to use without asking people to help everytime, so getting an OAT gun or double dmg gun is out of question. Soloable trial onry!

I decided to do WS dmg+10% Anarchy+1 just because....it looks easiest to obtain.

I still believe this gun is epeen only and not competitive against other none OAT none Empyrean gun. Especially if you shoot a lot. But I'm having elemental path Magian weapon phobia now after doing elemental path sword for my BLU. So elemental path guns are out of question for me also. Although I am still thinking about getting the AGI path gun someday....wind weather looks slightly easier than other weather especially fire.(Doing STR Shamshir is what gives me elemental path trial phobia)

I also thought about doing STP path Anarchy+1, which is better than WS dmg+10% for shooting. However, STP path needs to do more WS than WS dmg+ path. So I still ended up working on WS dmg+10% due to sheer laziness.

This gun at lv 85 is pretty much only good for Slug shot. I've read some math calculation somewhere that Martial still do more dmg for Detonator. So if I'm going to use this weapon for slug shot only, I need to rebuild my WS set for it and focus on racc a bit more instead of focusing on STR like my current WS set. I really hope by next update this gun can get more pimp a lot, something like WS dmg+20%. 8D

Job emotes!

SE just released a video about up coming job emote feature. I'd say most of them are pretty fun to watch and I like most of them.

WAR: Looks useful in various drama situations, or competing against other pt for ???....wait, I won't be GMed if I use this no?

MNK: Kinda boring to watch, but it does have MNK feel.

WHM: Pretty funny and certainly fits WHM.

BLM: Easily the coolest looking emote. BLM has best looking AF3 and coolest looking emote, they're the big winner in Dec. update!

RDM: Nice emote to use before/after their flower attack WS.

THF: This emote is so ninja!

PLD: What the hell is this - -

DRK: Feels more like a magician/vampire. Since DRK has blood weapon I guess Vampire style is ok.

BST: Must...level.....BST...to 30......Must.....get.....bunny.....ears......Sadly BST AF3 is not as cute as AF1&2, or else it'd fit the bunny ears even more.

BRD: Typical BRD.

RNG: Nature huh? Compare with other jobs doesn't really give strong impression.

SAM: Pretty funny. That SAM emote acutally has historical background and being used in many Japanese media including game/media/anime/T-shirt etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C5%ABrinkazan

NIN: Again, another funny ninja reference. Ninja was associate with frogs in Japanese folktale Jiraiya Gōketsu Monogatari(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiraiya) and many Japanese pop culture including manga/anime/games also used them, the most popular one now is probably Naruto. Guess SE is going Naruto/Far east of Eden's way lol.

DRG:



SMN: Reminds me of old FF7 Chocobo summon, just smaller. Still cute though.

BLU: Although it's pretty cute and funny, it totally lacks Immortal feel again.....Sometimes I wonder if the FFXI dev team now is different from ToAU era. BLU is supposed to be dark and soulless beast of Aht Urgan, white color scheme AF3 and funny job emote just isn't right :/

COR: New /random feature!?

DNC: DNC AF3 body is a bit disappointed on female character...at least better than AF1&2. Other wise I like DNC emote a lot. New /cheer emote!

SCH: Ok now we see SCH AF3 on female char also, SE must did that on purpose! I see another useful emote to have.

According to SE, those job emotes can be used on any job after quests done, some of them are pretty useful to have when interacting with other players. So besides more seal farm now there's more quests to keep ppl busy!

Cannonball

A few days ago I did Odin with Dynabus(Dynabus's first Odin fight btw), on BLU/THF. I usually don't get to use BLU for Odin fight, so it's something pretty new to me. I pulled out my rusty Cannonball set, which haven't been used for ages, to see how it works in Einherjar now.

I consider my Cannonball set above averge although not too godly @75. Although I'm missing a few new gears before and after the update. Need Heafoc mitts/AF3 legs/Rutter Saatons/Ire torque and a better weapon mostly. I'm still not sure if STR+2 earring is better than the Pagondas Earring I'm currently using. But I'm not too much of a perfectionist so I'm not too bother with that 0.00001% of gear difference.

With taco and Protect V but no BRD Minne, and my CASA Cannonball dmg was about 980ish on Odin. Efflux + QC easily did 1k or 1.1k with same set(too lazy to change). Considering the fact that I didn't use SA for QC, I'd say Cannonball's dmg is waaaay too low at this point. Besides the fact that Cannonball is ranged, it has no advantage in terms of dmg dealing.

Of course, Cannonball is ranged, so you can argue that it's still useful. But I have no problem run in and use QC, then run away on Odin fight. In fact, I believe most of the fight you don't NEED ranged. Run in, cast, run back. If you get hit then just cure. Most of the time you don't NEED a Cannonball set really. Yes, you can argue that "But curing needs MP!" Hmmm I haven't worry about MP for ages.

Prehaps the time that "Blue mage needs a Cannonball set and THF sub" is over? Just like Breath spell set and Eye on Me set, some serious BLUs used to build a gear set for those spells, but those spells totally lacks usefulness and can be replaced easily. Breath spell or Eyes on Me now can be replaced with Regurgitation and various new nuke spells, while Cannonball can be replaced with run in QC run away. I wonder if Cannonball set is still a must have for BLU now.

Final Fantasy

I have to admit that I'm a Final Fantasy fan. I played pretty much all FFs(including FFX-2) in the main series except FF13(I have a copy of it, just no money for a console....). Some of the newer FF titles received negative feedback from some players, and I usually defend for them. A lot of ppl hate FF8, but I told everyone that FF8 is my favorite title in the series. Some ppl hate FF12, and I told everyone that FF12 is my second favorite in the series. That's what is cool about FF, everytime it's different from previous titles, some people hate it, some people like it. I usually like it, and accept it's flaws. That's why FF series still popular, and still remains as the most popular JRPG titles.

A few days ago SE announced another 30 days free trial for FFXIV. Combining with the fact that now there are less ppl on my server in FFXIV than FFXI, I'll say FFXIV is simply the_biggest_failure ever in this series.

FF8, a FF title hated by many FF fans, scored 9.5 out of 10 from GameSpot reviewers. FFIX is 8.5, FFX is 9.3, FFXI is 8.2 when it launched, FFXII is 9, FFXIII is 8.5. Most of the FF games are usually 8.0+, no matter how lame it is, I'd say Gamespot is generally friendly to FF games. But they only gave FFXIV 4.0. IGN, another FF-friendly website gave FFXIV 5.5/10, while other FF games are mostly 9+.

I can defend for FFXIV, like how I defended for FFVIII and FFXII, or how someone else defended for FFVI or FFIX or FFVII when I said it sucked. But I can't change the fact that no one else is defending for FFXIV now. Some ppl /rage quit FFXI after lv 85 update, and claimed that FFXIV is a better game because 1.There are more players 2.It's just Beta, now they no longer say a thing. I still haven't seen anyone that plays FFXIV tell me "Damn this is the best FF I've ever played".

SE is going to release 2 major updates soon, however, if they can fix everything in 2 updates after 2 months, why not just release the game 2 months later? If they can't fix it, what's the point to release the game this year? And even if they really fix the problem by next 2 update, they'd have to compete with Wow Cataclysm, GW2 and Star Wars The Old Republic soon, for a game that already got so many negative review, it's hard to get back up again.

What SE should do now, it's to close the server, and fix everything then re-release the game in the future. The market of MMORPG is more harsh than FFXI era, you can't come up with an incomplete game and expect ppl to play it for years.

A lot of FF fans hate FF8, or FF9, or FF10, or FF12, it's simply just personal taste, it's different from previous titles, so they don't like it. But FF14? The reason why ppl don't like it is more than personal preference. This game shouldn't be released, SE ruined it.

SE should learn more from Blizzard, that's all I'd have to say. Stop ruining the series even more, if you can't come up with a good FF game, then stop making anymore FF games. Just let it stay as it is.

I don't know how FFXV going to be like. But FF series is going downhill and they no longer sell a lot like it used to be(the entire JRPG market is going downhill in fact). I really hope SE stop making anymore FF games since the JRPG market is much smaller than it used to be, there are no rooms for games like FF, which cost a lot to make, to survive, especially if SE just keep ruining it. This series needs a new life, and the way SE is treating it, they're killing series. After the failure and the bad reputation of FF14, how many player that's not FF fan is going to buy FF15 in the future?

When people flame FFVIII for it's love story and junction system, or character design in FF8, FF10, FF12 and FF13, I defended for it and believed that those are just personal taste, not flaws. And now I got evil and just waiting for WoW Cataclysm, GW2 and SWTOR(another promising MMORPG I can't wait to play) to crash FFXIV so SE can learn their lesson, and stop using the name of "Final Fantasy" as a way to sell their lame games.

AF3 body/hands

SE released pictures of full AF3 for every job. Ummm....

WAR:Looks good. It's not very different from AF1&AF2, but it's black and I like the color. Generally looks better than AF1&2.

MNK:Legs and body doesn't really match, but not too terrible.

THF:Body and head totally doesn't match.....damn THF head/legs looks good and body ruined it.

WHM:Although it's typical WHM look, AF3 set looks very good, better than AF1&2

BLM:Best looking AF3 set out of all jobs IMO.

PLD: I dont' like it, AF2 looks better.

DRK:So-so

RDM:Very cool design, I don't like it as much as some other jobs but overall it's very different from AF1 and 2 and cool.

BST:AF1&2 looks way better.

BRD: Nice....it's not very unique, something I'd already expect, but I like it.

RNG: Looks like a RANGER!

SAM:Some ppl complained it's pink and ugly, but I think it's ok.

NIN: I don't know why ppl like NIN AF3.....NIN AF3 body looks just like AF1 and nothing special. My favorite NIN af is still AF2>AF1>AF3

DRG: Ok I guess.....typical DRG look.

SMN: At first I like it, then starting to dislike it......doesn't really look right for SMN somehow.

BLU: Wtf! Totally doesn't look like an Immortal, lacks Aht Urgan feel, more like a random traveler. AF2>all.

SCH:Another body piece that doesn't match with legs and head.....AF1&2 looks more like a scholar IMO.

DNC:The website only shows male version. I'd say it looks way better than AF1&2 especially for male. Wonder how female ver. looks like. Overall it's black and it's better color than AF1&2. I hate DNC AF1 with a passion.

PUP:Actually fits pretty well with head and legs. Although I still like AF1&2 more, which has more Aht Urgan feel.

COR:AF3 on male char certainly looks better than AF1&2 on male char. But I'm more curious about the female version, I wonder if female ver. looks different like AF1&2. COR AF1&2 looks so-so on male modal, but on female char it's the best looking AF1&2, how I ended up lving COR.

And.....more change of role.

Blue mage, in many ppl's mind it's consider a useless/non-important job back in lv 75 era, now get a role change.

Back in lv 75 era, BLU is usually used as a DD. However in most situations it's weaker than 2h DDs such as WAR or SAM. It's the natural weakness of BLU. BLU has limited MP, and blue magic gets limited benefit from BRD and COR buffs. Against higher lv NM with higher def and eva, unbuffed blue magic dmg and 1h weapon gets slight disadvantage compare with 2h DDs. Of course you can /THF to add spell dmg, but CA and SA has lonnnnng recast time. Of course BLU can nuke, can heal/buff/support, but there are other jobs that's better at it. Therefore most ppl see BLU as a versatile job that doesn't excel in anything. And in FFXI, jobs without specialty is useless and not important for most players, including myself in fact. That's why I often emphasis the importance of headbutt spam stun, because BLU is the only job capable to do so. I often believe that "dealing dmg" is job of WAR or SAM, but not BLU. If a job with such versatile ability is also top DD, there's gonna be job balance problem. Apparently, other players don't buy that. Headbutt spam alone doesn't make BLU any more important. I guess that's the reason why SE changed that by giving BLU higher DD power.

New spells and new JA makes BLU much stronger than it used to be. MP problem is solved in abyssea with refresh atma, and lv correction problem is solved with STR atma/curor buffs. Outside of abby, with new DW job trait, I'm able to /RDM in old events such as Einherjar, with the power of convert, and refresh, I'm still able to spam spell none-stop for at least 85%+ of time. Also, mobs no longer IT+ in old events, so the spell dmg is no longer lame. I'm able to land 1k+ QC on DL the other day on my averge/mediocre geared BLU, which is just impossible back @75.

And most important of all, BLU is one of the most efficient job for abby time farm. BLU is able to solo Ephemeral mob easy in abby, capping azure light easy. Of course BLM is also good for Ephemeral azure light farm, but BLU can also get pearl light from them, which is an advantage BLM doesn't have. Now pretty much all JP /shout for abby EXP/AF3/NM/TE farm are looking for BLU now.

Now I'm asked to come BLU for most events I do. When I asked what job for Einherjar in 75 era, I got the reply "You'll never come BLU for Einherjar". And now I was asked to come BLU for Ein everytime. And of course I should, since my AF3-less gimp BLU now parsed higher than at least 85%+ of other AF3 DDs in Ein, even get on top3 list for a couple of times.

So I guess all the dmg output increase and azure light really changed how ppl look at this job, makes it more important than it used to be. Although BLU gets dmg output increase, but not to a point to make SAM and WAR and BLM obsolete. Now I can safely say that this is a good change.

COR, however, is now much less useful than it used to be. I rarely use COR now, ppl rarely told me to, and I rarely feel I need to. :<

COR is already not a very useful job back @75.
There are only a few situations I find this job really useful back @75, and other jobs are hard to replace, such as:

1.EXP/merit pt lv 10~75, to increase EXP gained per hr
2.Ultima fight for Magus roll
3.ACP last boss for Magus roll and ranged dmg
4.Salvage boss fight for MNK roll

And that's it.

Generally, BRD is a more useful support job than COR. COR only shines in few situations.

And after the update, things get worse, this job is now totally irrelevant.

Now that's look at No.1.(We don't look at No.2~4 because those old events are so easy now, no longer need a COR) Now ppl EXP in abby. EXP roll doesn't work in abby. And Chaos roll, COR's most powerful DD roll( and the only DD roll that's competitive against BRD) now totally irrelevant with 4820349852 atma/curor buffs. You no longer need a COR to have a good Abyssea pt, this job is so irrelevant for EXPing now. Wait, ppl still care about EXP/hr now? I thought now ppl have trouble to spend merit, not getting good EXP/hr.

In events when DDs need more firepower, Einherjar for example(Yes, my Ein LS still do BRD 2hr rotation and DRK zerging in Einherjar now) BRD is a better choice. They have powerful 2hr, they have (real)haste, they can do rotation effectively. DD with BRD buff> DD with COR buff. DD with COR buff pt only wins if COR's dmg output is high enough to compensate.

Of course, COR has some buffs BRD doesn't have. But none of them are important enough to make this job as important as BRD. COR has magic attack roll, but 3 BLM deals more magic dmg than 1COR 2BLM. Why not just replace COR with another BLM? COR has snapshot roll BRD doesn't. But RNG doesn't need more dmg, they need to avoid getting hate. They shoot faster, they get hate faster, mob goes to RNG, and that actually lowers RNG's dmg output because of close distance. There are only a few, really a few situations that snapshot roll is useful. COR has fast cast roll, I guess it's useful for tanks in an alliance with BRD(not again). I used it once in lowman situations to help tanks keep shadows up, but I think BRD with march and elegy could archive same result+ more dmg.

And speak of elegy, COR can't land para/slow alone, so it totally wasted a spot in lowman situations.

Once I had a BRD v.s COR arguement with Kasrkin, who insists that COR>BRD because COR can do dmg. So let's talk about dmg, one reason why ppl play COR instead of BRD and hate COR/WHM.

When SE announced that they're going to boost COR's dmg output in the future, entire COR community is happy, that COR no longer have to /WHM and play like a BRD. So COR gets True shot JT and QDTP this update. I haven't seen much huge dmg output difference with True shot, but getting TP after using QD certainly increase WS frequency a lot, and made a significant difference. So is COR a good DD now? No. My gimp BLU still deals 2~3 times more dmg than my COR, and DRG still deals more dmg on birds. Even gun Empyrean WS turned out to be weaker than other Empyrean WSs. COR's dmg output is higher than it used to be, but not to a point to be a competitive DD since other DD jobs are also stronger. So when we need more dmg, we'll most likely still find other DD jobs.

My point for all the COR v.s BRD is that do dmg is not always important when we use a COR. We use a COR when we need the buffs/support JAs. If we need dmg we can find one million better DDs out there. What SE needs to do is to give COR a GOOD buff or support JA, that's useful. And give COR some JAs to enhance the buffs. BRD keep getting higher tier of buffs, ballad III, tier II Carols. So why bother with magus roll when tier II Carols can nullify magic dmg, and why bother with averge 2~3MP/tic evokers for MP regeneration when ballad can recover more MP consistently.

There are just way too many situations that when I use COR, I wish I'm a BRD instead. Lowman Carabosse for example, some ppl trio this NM with MNK BRD/WHM RDM setup, since I don't have a BRD, I ended up having to do Carabosse with MNK COR/WHM RDM and find extra healer to reduce the chance of death. COR/WHM can't cure as effectively as BRD/WHM without cure potency gear and other mage gears. Some ppl use it as an excuse that COR shouldn't /WHM, I found it actually a weakness when lowmanning stuff. Also, not able to land slow alone means I need to find extra RDM or BRD to land slow.

Ok, I know some ppl gonna say "if you want to make COR and BRD all the same, why don't you lv BRD". I wish the job I'm stuck on using is the job I like, not the job that's more useful.

Unless SE boost COR's dmg ability to a point like they did to BLU, MNK and DRG, it's not going to be more useful than it is now. This job can only be more useful if SE gives more potent and useful buffs/useful JAs. Not keep adding lol buffs like fake haste(blitzers).

So when is the last time I use COR and find it useful and unreplaceable?? Hmmm Assault for movement speed+ roll/gear I guess! What? BRD also has movement speed+ gear now? Ohhh nvm. I'm seriously considering lving DNC and make it my main anyways. DNC is damn useful to have and fun to play with!

Mog Bonanza 2011

Hmmm ok, SE just released the info about Mog Bonanza for next year. This time they added Empyrean weapons and relic accessories as a prize. So which item would I choose if I win one? Hmmmm daydream time!

Rank1:
I already decided, if I win a rank 1 item, it's either gil or Empyrean gun for me. If I already finish stage 1 Empyrean by Feb 3, which is the winning number announce day, then I'd take gil to fund my mythic. If I'm still far from finishing stage 1 Empyrean, then I'd choose Armageddon to save time to farm gems and 50 lanterns.

Since I don't have an endgame LS supporting my gem farm, finishing Armageddon is a painful process of bugging and draging friends everyday to kill Carabosse for me ._.

Stealthkiller, who already spent lots of time farming Carabosse pop and killing Carabosse with me asked how many more gems I need to finish my trial yesterday. And I replied 43, and need another 50 item after all the gems. I think he almost faint when he heard the number ._.

Not to mention getting 50 lantern sucked, although killing big fish isn't too hard, one of the pop item required to pop it is an overcamped time spawn NM, which is just lame. Not to mention all the process of bugging and dragging ppl to kill it 30+ times again ._.

Although choosing Armageddon sounds like I wasted all the previous NM camping and gem farming time if I win rank1, but it certainly makes me and my friend's life whole lot easier. Not a bad choice.

Yes, I know getting Armageddon is actually easier than some other Rank1 items for me, some items on rank1 list is just impossible for me to obtain, at least I can finish Armageddon if I bug friends everyday. But save everyone's time>all.

Other rank1 items I'm interested includes Novio earring, Ninurta's Sash and Defending ring. Novio earring's market price is now 5M~6.5M, if rank1 gil is more than 5M then getting Novio is a waste. Ninurta's sash is god like in 75 era, now with Goading belt and Bullwhip belt, it's no longer god like. And god knows whether SE is going to make another 8% haste, 9% haste or 10% haste belt at lv99. So better don't take risk on Nin sash. Defending ring is one of the "oh damn there is no fking way to get this" item for me, I'd take it if I'm a career PLD, but I'm not. So I get limited benefit from this item.


If I win a rank2, it's most likely I'd pick a Loki's Kaftan or Velocious Belt. I need a decent ranged attack piece atm, unless COR AF3 body is something even better, This is very good for /ra spam. Vbelt is also very nice, so it's really hard to decide which one. Have to wait until next update for new items and see. Another item I'm interested is COR relic accessory. Now this piece can be replaced with Impulse belt for /ra spam, and Crudelis belt for WS. Unless you want to use Impulse belt before /ra, and macro in Commodore belt before bullets fire, it's not a must have piece besides getting 6/6 AF2.

Rank3....I don't have anything I really want from rank3 ._. Maybe Gnadbhod's Helm for BLU physical magic, or White Tathlum for money._.

Rank4: PCA all the way.

Rank5: Hmmm kinda want A.Angel HM Statue, or Alexander statue. I'm a Taru lover so maybe I should pick A.Angel TT Statue? But for some reason I like hume Ark angel more than Taru ._.


Ok, time to stop dreaming. I've never even win a rank4 or higher, so most likely it's gonna be dreams only. If I ever have enough luck to win something big, I'd rather win real lottery and get real money XD

A change of role

After the lv cap increase, it's getting more and more clear that SAM is no longer the best DD compare with other jobs. (Assuming the definition of "best DD" is based on parse result). It has something to do with how DD mechanics changed after the update.

Some of the reason why SAM parse high @ 75 cap is because the way this game calculates dmg just favors SAM @75, based on other ppl's opinion:

In 75 era:

1. Tachi:Gekko hits harder on IT+ mobs compare with other job's main WS.

2. Tachi:Gekko is 1 hit, which produces full dmg when mob almost die, while other DD's main WS are multi-hit and doesn't produce full dmg if mob almost die.

3. Hagun is a broken weapon which makes Tachi:Gekko broken. Other jobs has no broken weapon.

And obviously, things changed now. Now with the power of RR atma(which most DD has them now), 1h DD, h2h DD and DD with crit WS all gets stronger. NIN BLU MNK all MUCH stronger than it used to be, even THF is able to do some crazy dmg with RR atma. Crit rate+ also favors crit WS user, such as DRG. And those job used to be lolDDs in 75 era.


Outside of abby in old events, due to the lv difference, crit hit also proc more, so those jobs still gets the advantage. Also, Tachi:Gekko no longer gets bouns outside of abby event because mobs are no longer IT+. All the crit hit+ inside and outside of abby, and lv correction change certainly smash 2h DD and none-crit WS user hard.

Sadly, DRK doesn't get power up in this lv cap without crit WS(or to be precise, a useful one, according to Vodevil), even Apoc is no longer so godly due to getting to haste cap easier. Not to mention all the procing !!! in abby kills DRK zerging.

WAR is still top DD, DRG certainly has power up, I've seen some insane dmg of Drakesbane.

New lv cap update also favors BLU, which not just gets new spells, but also gets unlimited MP in abby, outside of abby all mobs are no longer IT+, and we all know that BLU hits hard on mobs that's VT or lower.

Melee DoT jobs like NIN MNK are all very powerful now, especially if they use crit WS.

SAM is dead. Goodbye, you've been top DD for a long time already.

Decline

I log on to FFXIV, saw only 800ish ppl online, then I log on to FFXI and saw about 1000 ppl on my server. First time I see more ppl in FFXI than FFXIV.

When FFXIV was released, there are like 1.8k ppl online on NA prime time, when FFXI only had 1000 on my server, now things changed.

I also noticed many ppl I know who left FFXI for FFXIV now all back to FFXI again. lol

My friend invited me to a dyna-xarc run, and lucky enough, COR hat dropped! I'm unable to find a dyna LS that fits my schedule, especially most of the dyna LS requires full attendance. Therefore I was very happy to get my last(and most useful) piece of AF2 for COR.

Let's talk more about subjob

After all the pting and abby/SMN burn leeching, I finally got my WAR to lv 42, so this subjob is finished...for now. That's one more subjob I can use now, gonna play with it a bit more from now on!

Ummm so how do I feel about WAR sub?

Btw, I have no WS dmg +10% gun nor WS gorget(gimp), and was eating squid sushi, fighting abby IT bats. Using Atma of Stout arms as DD atma, the other one was magic attack atma. And yes, bats are weak against piercing.

If I don't receive attk down from bats, and have berserk/warcry/abby temp item on I have like 830 attk with Chaos roll, joytoy melee dmg is 60~110 each hit, and WS dmg averge 2.2~2.7k on bats, 3.1k max. With attack down it drops to 1.2k~1.6k. It's just a very powerful subjob in terms of dmg output, although also a huge MP sponge, mages probably hate this a lot.

I wonder if Wildfire on Armageddon beats Slug shot /WAR in terms of pure WS dmg. /WAR gets Aggressor and Fencer at lv 90, so it's likely to be the subjob of choice at 90 for melee TP pirates, main reason why I'm lving it now.

I also wanted to try BLU/WAR, BLU certainly benefits from aggressor/berserk/warcry/DA/attk bouns also, plus /WAR has high STR which never hurts spell dmg.

Now I get all my subjob lv42+, except SCH which stopped at lv 40. I lv SCH sub for BLU, which was a very useful subjob BLU can use in 75 era, however, I found myself no longer use SCH sub anymore. I no longer do campaign, if I want to support/heal I just /WHM which has haste, so I don't see much point to lv SCH to 42....wait.....

From 41~49, SCH gets Sandstorm/Rainstorm/Windstorm/Firestorm/Hailstorm, which gives weather effect and triggers elemental obi latent to increase QD dmg. Plus all the useful cure/erase/-na spells....SOUNDS LIKE A VERY GOOD SUB FOR COR! It's like the combination of /WHM and /RDM for COR :O Hmmm gonna work on /SCH now.

Hey and there's also /DNC I need to work on, and by the time I finish all those next update come and that's more lving D;

Blitzer's roll

Apparently, this roll isn't too popular, like it's some kind of plague because of TP-. So time to defend for it.

I recently duo/trio with a MNK (Stealthkiller) a lot, he has cap haste(Full usu+ black belt), plus relic weapon and Atma of mount razed ruin(beast crit hit atma). His melee crit hit can do about 250~300+ dmg on abby NM, and if relic proc that's almost 1k, and crit proc A LOT.With haste/Blitzers roll, it looks like MNK 2hring XDDD. So imagine how powerful it is when combining with MNK with high haste+ crit-hit atma. Especially when his WS is only 1.2k but melee DoT way higher.

Of course, you can argue that BRD with march is better, guess that's why COR isn't exactly popular now.

Oh and btw, huge thanks to Stealth, I finally got both sea torque and a couple of Carabosse pop set. He is one of the nicest person you can find on this server, so don't be mean to him when you see him XDDD.

FFXIV

Haven't post for a while.....
I created a char in XIV after all, to start playing something new cuz I'm kinda sick of XI already. Currently lving Gladiator. Oh and btw, XIV does have COR, Musketeer has a guild, so it's likely that it'll be a playable class in the future. And it's not just random gun user called Musketeer, it's PIRATE! They all dress up like COR in AF!

Well, so far I like FFXIV a lot, although it got like 4/10 from Gamespot review.

Many ppl complaining about bad interface and limited game content, however, compare with FFXI is way better. Basically, if you can tolerate XI then you should be able to tolerate XIV..... I still have no idea how to play XI with a keyboard and a mouse, but I can play XIV with a keyboard and a mouse at least. As for limited game content... I thought XI has even less content when it launched? Ok, maybe we shouldn't compare XIV with XI, we should compare with WoW._.

As for lag in XIV, I d/c and r0 in abyssea or even other areas in XI everyday, so I already learned how to tolerate SE's crappy server._.

Otherwise I'd say XIV is very similar to XI in many ways. The menu, map, control, setting, auto translate, TP, everything. Just improved from XI in many ways. For me it's like FFXI-2, except it's less annoying, faster travel, easier to use map/quest log, more direction in this game. Some reviewers says XIV lacks in game direction so you don't know where to go, tbh, it's way better than XI, which you really never know where to go next for quest. Again, if you can tolerate XI then you should be able to tolerate XIV.

I actually like the class system a lot. In XI many jobs are stuck using same subjob over and over, which is kinda annoying. In XIV it's more flexible. Although I can expect once this game release for 1~2 years, every class will have to stuck with certain ability for efficiency again.

One thing I'm truely happy in XIV is, it's new, and have a lot of new stuff to explore, while XI is all dead and all about gear grind. Look at all the recent game content released in XI, WoTG areas are mostly old areas in the past, Abyssea areas are just old areas also, Add-on missions doesn't even have anything, only lolstoryline and gear. Abyssea looks like it can take a while to do everything, but the fact is, it's only recycling old map, put some Empyrean gear and NMs in it, and that's it. Takes a while to do, but not much stuff really.

So, why am I still in XI? Hmmmm.
Maybe I won't leave until all friends are gone, lol.

Port Jeuno=new WG? 83 stones go go!

I noticed many ppl now stay/set HP in Port Jeuno instead of WG because of abyssea, I also set my HP in Port Jeuno sometimes so i can warp back quickly. Since Abyssea is all that matters in this game I guess Port Jeuno is now new WG?

Anyways.

I obtained both Abyssite of Celerity, and ended up having 83 stones. So I decide to solo some easy NMs in Abyssea-La Theine so i can waste my stones. First NM that comes into mind is Baba Yaga, which is quite possibly the easiest mob(mob, not NM) in abyssea and it drops a key item for Carabosse.

At first I /WHM for magic def bouns and RR in case I die, in the end I found /THF is better for the drops. This NM spams Silencega a lot, so I was planning to save money of echo drops by kiting while silenced, apparently it doesn't work too well because of graviga. Well, this NM drops some nice stuff for sell anyways, so it's still profitable even with all the echo spam if lucky.

Other wise it's easier than any abyssea mob. /NIN is not needed because it only do WS moves and no melee attack. It's WS is very weak, so it's actually weaker than those mobs that melee. Aeroga III is easily stunable. With double refresh atma I almost never run out of MP. Basically just kill like usual, stun Aeroga III and magic fruit when MP gets lower than 75% and everything is gonna be fine.

Next easy soloable NM I gonna try is probably Nahn which drops BLU af3 neck piece. I also want to do La Theine Liege for Carabosse pop set as well, it's duoable but I'm not sure if it's soloable. However having atmas certainly make things easier. In fact because I'm too used to the power of atma and abyssea temp items, I keep forgetting to conserve MP in Einherjar >.>

I'm seriously considering lving a mage mule and dual box so I can take down abyssea NMs without asking ppl to help or something ._.

I also found new abyssea zone is now over populated. Getting ??? to pop seal NMs or claiming seal NMs is a pain, with pts occupying ??? everywhere. I think I'm probably one of the few player that's still farming old zones NM instead of new seal NMs, lol. Guess I won't be getting AF3+1s or a awhile.

A few days ago I decided to throw away my GoR pearl for more inventory. This is my first LS, and the LS that helped me the most including unlocking advance jobs, getting subjob, killing rank mission 2~3 boss etc. Ppl like Hushigoshi, Cataclysm, Mesto and Ozment really helped me a lot.

It's dead for like 1 year already, but I still keep it in my inventory. As more and more gear/seals comes in and less inventory space I decided to throw away some stuff that is meaningful to me.

JP BLU v.s NA BLU

One year ago when I made this char, someone (a none-JP player who's in JP community) told me he doesn't like to play with North American players/pts because due to the cultural differences, most of them sucked, only a few NA pts are good. And that's his 7 years of playing experience. I didn't believe it. However as I play more and more, I'm starting to agree with him.

Ok back to the topic.

Yesterday I had some lowman Abyssea NM killing action with Stealthkiller and his friends on BLU, and after yesterday's experience, I can't help but once again /rage when I saw thread like this. (And in case you misunderstand, Stealthkiller's pt is awesome)

Basically, if you ask how to gear a BLU, or what weapon trial to do for BLU, NA community will tell you this:
Go for STR sword, stack STR everywhere until you're fking awesome. If your dmg is too low, you're gimp.

And if you ask JP community they'll tell you:
Macc sword is more beneficial for BLU. On higher lv NMs and some new NMs head butt stun proc rate gets resist very often, so using MACC sword helps a lot. BLU can't proc stun=gimp.

This demonstrates the fundamental difference between JP's play style and NA's play style. They're willing to sacrifice personal epeen and dmg output for the benefit of the whole pt. And since this game is made by JP, JP's way of playing seems to be more successful. Just my personal experience.

Oh and btw, the point of view of 14th post of the tread is invalid, you can't stun shit with 4.5 sec casting time blitzstrahl. You can't stun any mob WS and most spells because the casting time is fking long, not to mention it dries your MP pool if you're not in Abyssea. 17th post is somewhat valid, no test has been done to prove how effective MACC is when trying to proc stun. If there is any reason to stop me from making a MACC sword(planning to make one after STR and PDT- sword done.) It's probably because I'm not sure about how effective it is, not because it gimps the dmg.

Many NA player view a player good or gimp by their dmg output. However, can we really tell if a player is good or not by looking at their dmg output? Can someone's contribution to the pt be determined by their dmg output?

Once I did a T2 ZNM run with Sinister, and when I arrived I saw the pt half broken, many ppl died and they're kiting the mob and waited for pt to recover. I saw Sabre in red HP so I tossed him some heal, and he was very surprised that he was healed, because no other mage in the pt was healing him, and he was healed by a BLU, a job traditionally used as a DD. When I farm for gilz in abyssea with Orih and Nabasheen, Orih was also surprised that I was able to main heal and keep everyone alive on BLU. I wonder what kind of BLUs they usually pt with? Spammy spammy BLUs?

Once I asked Serafyn why he choose to merit Diffusion to 5/5? The recast time is so long even when you get it to 5/5. He replied because he can buff and help his pt more often, and his pt member is usually very happy when getting buffed. And he is well aware that putting merit in Diffusion will make his dmg output gimp. I actually agreed with his opinion a lot. If I'm looking for a BLU in certain lowman NM hunt event, I'd rather find a BLU with 5/5 diffusion with a sense of what to do for the benefit of the whole group instead of a BLU with 5/5 Enchainment and aim for highest dmg output.

Sometimes when I DD on COR ppl told me I'm very good at this job because I'm able to pull out decent dmg output on COR. However, how good a COR is can not be determined by it's dmg output. In order to perform good dmg output a lot of sacrifice needs to be done. Such as using 2~3 buffs instead of 4 so DD buffs stay on COR as long as possible. Use fire shots + fire staff(HQ) combo when shooting for even more dmg instead of Ice/earth shots which makes Para/slow stronger but less dmg. /DD instead of /mage and lose support abilities and such. However, give 4 buffs to the pt is better for the whole group, using ice/earth shot is better for the whole group, and /mage is better for the whole group, even just for the sake of Stoneskin when getting hit.


In the end, dmg output has nothing to do with how good a player is. Dmg output is just epeen, but doesn't make the event more successful. (none-relic)DRK/SAM can do more dmg than DRK/NIN, but they become a MP sponge if they don't know how to control hate properly. Besides dmg output, there is something that's more important in the pt. This cultural and playstyle difference between NA and JP is possibly why every NA abyssea pt I joined was full of death and not going too well in terms of EXP/hr and drops, and every JP ones I joined went well and gives decent EXP/AF3 drops.

Last Abyssea - Attohwa run we wiped against Pallid Percy and someone said headbutt stun won't work. But I tried stun spammy spammy on Pallid Percy yesterday with Stealthkiller's group and it worked just fine. It works just fine all the way until the end. So stop just STR all the way then go D; when stun won't proc.

By the way, after yesterday's stun spammy spammy night I also found Blue magic skill seems to affect the proc rate way more than other stats when fighting higher lv NMs. I used to have very hard time landing stun when fighting abyssea NMs before I cap my skill lv. Yesterday my blue magic skill lv finally capped and the stun proc very often, now I feel like I'm pimp like a boss! If I can push my skill lv a bit higher, it'd proc even more, making NMs lose even more turns and reduce the number of members needed during NM hunt.

And since blue magic skill lv affects the proc rate a lot, I'd say this item is underrated.

When this item was out, everyone was like oohh STR-4 on hands, inventory -1!
It dropped last time and no one bother to lot, like this glove is some kind of plague ><

No this item is underrated. Haste +3% on hand slot doesn't make a huge difference on recast time. And from my personal experience blue magic skill lv seems to outperform the MACC+ BLU can get on hands.



Oh and btw, I found BLU is actually easier to get EXP pt invite than COR now. Sometimes I can turn pt flag on whole night on COR and no invite :<, but once I switch to BLU I got invite fast D; Once I /anon(I forgot I was /anon) and sent a /tell to JP if I can join his abyssea pt, he straight ignored me like most of other JPs. 10 min later I run into him and when he found out I'm a BLU by checking me he sent me an invite right away. I guess that's probably because Azure light jobs are hard to find and many jobs can give perle/red light. I also found my LS asking me to come BLU for events more and more. And I'm so not used to such a big change :O

Atma > Gear

I spent whole weekend to get my FFXI working again, and also got my Atma of the Stout Arm and second lunar abyssite. This atma gives STR+40 and lots of attk/rattk. Everyone, including myself was very excited when we got it, like we got some kind of god like gear. Now I wonder if the era of Atma > gear is here.

When new STR+6 ring was out, everyone was like :OOOOOOOOO, because it's 1 STR more than old Flame ring.
Now compare with STR+40 or STR+50 Atma, a few STR improvement on gears is so small that's is almost neglectable.

Probably the main reason why I'm focusing on getting COR AF3 seals instead of BLU AF3 seals. +8 STR +8 DEX 4% haste on BLU legs is so godly compare with old +4 STR +4 enkidu and 3% haste pants, but 4 more STR, DEX and 1 more haste doesn't make a huge difference when comparing with +40 STR or +50 STR atma.

Now with 2 lunar abyssite access, my BLU gets fast cast, 5MP/tic refresh, +40 STR and decent amount of attk for more DoT.
For COR, I used Atma of Heavens for MAB and Atma of Stout Arm for STR+40 and rattk+. But I found my Uggalepih pendant almost never active because of refresh, in the end it's only MAB+2 if I use Atma of Heavens. I'll probably try Atma of Sellsword + Atma of Stout arm combo next time, until I get Atma of the drifter.

Annnnddd..... Problem continues

Just as I finally finished updating FFXI, I found it unplayable for no reason. The whole game now runs in 1~3 FPS, and I have no idea what happened. I guess this invisible power that's stoping me from playing FFXI just won't let me go huh?

A list of things stopping me from playing FFXI

Ever since my school start, I keep facing difficulties when I attempt to play FFXI, like there is some kind of being from higher plane that's doing everything it can to stop me.

First of all, my laptop broke, and my CC cancelled. I thought I can keep playing by buying a new laptop and apply for a new CC, but I was wrong. The internet in my house and my controller broke after I moved, and it took one week to fix the internet. After my internet finally fixed I thought I can happily play FFXI again. But I was wrong again. Yesterday when I tried to start the game I found my POL broke, some files are missing. I thought windows update broke it so I did a system recovery, and reinstalled POL. After all the update I got a msg from McAfee internet security says it removed certain trojan and my POL broke again. That's how I realized McAfee internet security was the suspect of killing my POL. I deleted McAfee, yes, I'm very determine to come back and keep playing, but that being from higher plane is even more determined than me. My mouse broke during the process of system recovery(although later on I found out it's just the touchpad function was turned off somehow). But that won't stop me, I used keyboard to log in to POL and start the game, but got stucked during the version check. I thought my McAfee broke my FFXI also so I deleted FFXI and reinstall it. Later on it turned out that it's not broken, it's just SE server problem. I guess a serious of event made me /panic and dumb. USUALLY I won't reinstall FFXI just because certain server error, but server error and POL problem just happened on the SAME time and that's how I ended up making a wrong decision.

Ok, so now I need to do the version update all over again, and for some reason I'm stuck on the version update. I can't update it, both XI and XIV. And my other website worked just fine.

Basically, every time when I solved a problem that's stopping me from playing FFXI, a new problem occurred.

In my culture people believe their ancestors have power to protect their descendants after they die, they're always watching and guarding their descendants from heaven. Now I wonder if my ancestors just want me to focus on school projects and stop playing FFXI, so they're doing everything they can to break my FFXI. They failed though, cuz I spent most of my time trying to get back to FFXI now, instead of just playing it, or focusing on projects. Let's see who'll win in the end.

Wishlist

Here is the wishlist and gear sets I need to work on after I ding 85. I know some of the items I list are not the best, but I'm being realistic and just skipped some of the harder to obtain/too expensive stuff, I also want to keep as many old gear of mine as possible because I'm too lazy, so some of the gears listed are not new but something I already have ._. All of the Mayhem+1 listed below are racc Mayhem+1. I know I should put Armageddon on the list, but Armageddon has same delay as Mayhem and it uses totally different WS. So I'll just put racc Mayhem +1 on for now. And of course, if anyone has better suggestion on gear set feel free to let me know XD.

The Sept. update gives COR TP when using Quick Draw, therefore, instead of working on a traditional QD set with full AGI and MAB gears, I plan make a Quick Draw set with +21 STP so I can get to 100 TP 1 hit faster every time QD timer up. Although sacrificing some amount of MAB and AGI is needed in order to archieve 21 STP. My goal is to sacrifice as little MAB as possible and make up the AGI lose by HQ staff and QD acc merit.

I choose to put STP on rings, hands and waist slots. Ring slots has only 1 MAB, so there is really very little dmg lose if I put STP on this slot. Hands has no MAB atm, just AGI and macc gears, so it's safe to put some STP on hands slot. Now it's choice between waist and back piece. I put STP on waist because I hate elemental obi, they don't always work and eat lots of inventory. Another waist option is Aquiline Belt, this item still has no info so it's equal to not exist XD. Then again, Forban cape also doesn't exist on my server, so I shouldn't even worry about it lol. If the right day and weather is up, use elemental obi on waist and use tactical mantle on the back still gives enough STP for 5-hit build and more dmg than Forban cape/Goading belt combo. No matter what combo is used, this set only lost 4 MAB to archieve 21 STP which hardly makes a difference for dmg per shot, I'd say it's worth it.


When fighting very high lv NM or solo, a strong QD set with lots of AGI are still needed. So full QD set here it is.

Well.....this set actually has LESS rattk and racc than /SAM's 5-hit build set. /SAM's set has 24 racc more, which is higher than racc bouns from /RNG already, not to mention it's quite impossible to get 36 STP for QD unless dmg gimp. I'd say /RNG with 5-hit is not worth it, probably still should go for rattk or racc and 6-hit when subbing RNG. Maybe with all the racc Mayhem and QD TP, /SAM is now the best DD sub for ranged spam?

I also messed around with melee TP set, tbh I can't care about melee TP set too much atm. Maybe just upgrade some of the current ones and I'm happy.

Leveling in Abyssea

Hmmmm ok, so the first thing to do after coming back is grinding to 85 of course! I joined several Abyssea pt, and noticed the dmg output of COR has been up for a whole lot, because all the TP gained when doing Quick Draw. Oh my god I love this new QD update, not just because it increased the WS frequency a lot, also a cheaper option to skill up. (Skilling up is kinda shit now, my skill haven't been able to cap for a lonnng time)


We were EXPing on colibris, I especially love to Slug shot ---> Barrage ----> QDx2 (Actually with good STP setup it is possible to reach 100 TP without QD after barrage) ----> Slug shot, that's like 3k dmg in an instant without any atma, food and Minuet at lv 80. I also tested other ways of DDing, such as spamming /ra with Quicksilver(low delay gun) and high delay guns. Melee TP then WS in Slug shot, Detonator and Leaden Salute(actually that's because amber light were needed for AF3 farm). Long delay guns clearly gets more benefit from this update, since they gain more TP. Now this makes low delay type gun even weaker XDD. Those CORs with 5/5 QD recast merit and ACP body augmented for QD really gonna pwn in terms of dmg output.

I was a bit of D; after the last update because COR doesn't get any enhancement in terms of dmg output, now I'm ;D!

I also noticed that fire shot is more useful than it used to be, since I usually spam ranged attack in fire staff. Mobs die fast, no need to enhance the debuffs with ice or earth shot really.

Now here comes the real question, is Death Penalty still good, or even worth making? Theoretically (I don't own it so I can't test it, I'm just thinking in my head) it's not, at least it's not in pt situations. If it's soloing then it's another story. Armageddon seems to be better, with better aftermath WS, higher base dmg and higher delay, therefore easier to reach 100% TP along with STP gear and QD.

I was also thinking about doing QD in STP gear/roll instead of MAB roll/gear, to reach 100% TP faster. But I'm not sure if more dmg per shot is better or reach 100 TP faster is better. Getting TP when doing QD just opens up a lot of new options for gear build and play style.

I also tried to farm for AF3 feets in Abyssea, appearantly the drop rate is pretty lame and it's like another evil dyna - -. After last update some people said SE is making this game more causal and gears easier to obtain, apparently SE doesn't want this game to be causal at all- -. 4hr of abyssea farming and only 6 AF3 dropped, and most pt can't even drop 6, just 2~3. And that's just the base armor, and there's +1 and +2. Compare with old endgame gear AF3 is not any easier.



So, going to XIV? Not until XIV gets some kind of gun user or pirate class!




I really need to make myself a new magian gun before Armageddon and Death Penalty complete. Currently I'm leaning toward making racc one to replace martial. Racc is actually one of the less popular choice among CORs. WS dmg+10% seems nice and popular, also easy to make. But if I'm shooting this gun kinda lack any additional benefit to enhance the dmg. STR gun hits hard, but I doubt it's going to hit harder than Armageddon. Most important of all, I have no idea what will COR's main WS be at lv 99. If COR gets new pimp WS at lv 99 and it's magical WS or WS with AGI+75% mod then I'm screwed. Both guns can't really compete with Armageddon, and pretty much inventory -1 if I ever complete Armageddon. MAB gun is also a very popular choice, but this gun is even more situational than other magian guns. I'm not a big fan of QD soloing, unless I'm fighting a NM with deadly WS so I don't shoot and only doing QD I don't see much use of this gun. Racc gun seems to be the only way that has it's own way to compete with Armageddon, with much higher racc.

Of course, the best way is to make them all, WS dmg+10% gun when melee TPing and racc ok, MAB gun when only doing QD or Leaden salute spam, Racc gun when fighting high eva mobs and STR gun for ranged attack/slug shot spam. But if I have that kind of time to make them all then I'd better spend them on Armageddon .__.

3.Abyssite and Atma grind
4.Work on Captain
5.Get a new gun!

Back, and FFXI looks more beautiful than ever

I replaced my old laptop with a new one, now I can finally play FFXI again. This laptop is intended to play FFXIV, so it's very high-end. Even with highest resolution the game still runs smoothly. Even in Einherjar with 18 people the game still won't lag. It's probably my first time running FFXI with full effect on, and I realized the graphic of FFXI is actually very good, even though it's a 8 year old game.
The weather effect and lighting effect looks amazing, and textures are nice under high resolution. The most important thing is, finally no lag even in besieged or Einherjar, everything just runs smoothly. When there are 20 ppl fighting a mob with all the WS/magic special effect and it looks amazing. I guess I'm too used to my SNES resolution graphic on my old laptop, now I feel FFXI is like a new game - -
One of the most satisfying thing is, macro no longer lag. So I can swap gear more often and do more dmg, or sleep the mob quicker....if my controller stop acting weird.
Well, anyways. Now I'm back, time for level grind!

Ok, I kept using AF3 in my recent blog post's title, but I don't really talk about my opinion about AF3s ._. Now I'm going to talk about Af3s....for real, lol.

Looks like new best TP piece for COR ranged attack, unless you prefer a Zha'Go's Barbut.
My MKE head is still better for WS, but for ranged attack TP, this wins. Super high racc and rapid shot just pwns.

Now, pirates have 3 pirate hats to use, AF1(+1) for Quck Draw, AF2(+1) for Phantom Roll, and AF3+2 for Shooting, hurray!

Long time ago my friend Agerknux was complaining about my char "doesn't look like COR", now this looks like a new piece to wear most of the time when I shoot stuff and make my char look like a COR more.

I also noticed the set gives Quick Draw augment. Maybe in the future CORs do QD in full set, and no need AF1(+1) hat?




Another "ahhh" piece for shooting.

I mentioned I want to work on a lower hit build for ranged attack set, and need a Skadi pants.
And now SE answered my call. Pants with STP+8 and Snapshot! 8 AGI is just a bouns. Now I can safely remove Skadi pants from my wishlist.



A piece for Quick Draw....err...a piece that pwns all the previous feet options for Quick Draw.
After the lv 80 update RNG gets access to quick draw by subbing COR, plus they have access to higher base dmg guns and bullets. So I was a bit worried about RNG subbing COR actually beats COR as main job for QD dmg, which is as ridiculous as WAR/BLM outnuking BLM main job. I hope COR gets more COR only gears to increase QD effect, so other jobs subbing COR won't beat COR for QD dmg, resulting job balancing problems.

SE seems to realized that COR's greatest problem for shooting is that alfg9uq94ut@#$%;lk long delay, now giving CORs so many gears to make pirates shoot faster!

I admit I kinda hate shooting stuff and love to melee TP more, or else I'd lv RNG. Put all the costs aside, shooting in EXP/Abyssea EXP pt is kinda lame, I can hardly land any bullets on mobs before they die(assuming DDs in the pt are well geared and killed the mob fast enough). Melee TP gain is way faster with all the haste gear/song/magic. I mostly only shoot stuff on higher lv NM fights to avoid AoE and feeding too much TP. Now with so many gears to enhance the speed of shooting, new True shot JA and new snapshot rolls, bullet spamming CORs may beat melee TP CORs when DDing, unless SE release more powerful multi-hit melee weapons in the future. Damn, if I want to play COR the way I like in the future, using sword and gun instead of only using gun, I probably have to face a lot of "ahh you fail!" comment.

Also a very good body piece for other jobs that can wear it if they need acc. All my Cobra unit gears confirmed dead.

I noticed AF3 has a lot of Enhances "X's roll" effect on.
As a support role job, I always believe the gear that enhances the roll effect(relic hat) is more important than DD gears, it's make or break to me. Therefore putting support stats on AF3 kinda makes me feel a little more comfortable, at least not having a relic hat(not having enough luck to obtain it to be exact) won't make me completely fail. And AF3+1 looks easier....or at least requires less luck to obtain than dyna-xarc items, hurray!

I also checked RNG AF3, appearantly it's much more powerful in DD aspect than COR AF3. COR used to be able to wear most of the good RNG gears, such as Skadi, w hands, Zha'Go's Barbut and ACP body. Just not higher base dmg bullets and osode. So some COR gets cocky, thinking they can outdmg real DDs with good gear, looked down on CORs subbing WHM, forgetting their role is always buffing ppl. Most of the DD jobs gets powerful DD AF3, and COR gets half DD half support AF3s, I think it's fair. The gap between a real DD and COR just gets bigger, time to accept the fact that DD on COR is for fun only, supporting the pt is more important.
